About 100 protesters gathered in North Portland on Tuesday night to rally over the killing of Daunte Wright, who was shot by an officer in Minnesota on Sunday after being pulled over for a traffic violation.
Wright was shot by officer Kim Potter and was later pronounced dead after he crashed his car several streets away after driving away from the scene of the shooting. Potter, a 26-year veteran of the Brooklyn Center Police Department subsequently announced her resignation on Tuesday, as did police chief Tim Gannon.
A police statement released on Monday said the incident was an accident, as the officer intended to use a taser, not a gun, on Wright.
