Civil servants in The Hague staged a sit-in protest on Thusrday to protest against the ongoing war in Gaza.

For several months, civil servants from different Dutch ministries have been demonstrating every Thursday in their free time, against the inaction of the Dutch government in relation to the Israeli army's invasion of Gaza since October 2023.

"I am here as a civil servant because as a civil servant in the Netherlands, I swore an oath to protect the constitution. And in the constitution is an article, article 93, that speaks about the Netherlands wanting to uphold international justice, basically. And I believe that in order to do that, it's important for our government to do more to, get a ceasefire going in Palestine," protester Stan

Fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza broke out after the Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200 civilians, according to Israeli officials.

In Gaza, the Israeli army launched a large-scale campaign of airstrikes and ground incursion in response to the attack, killing at least 39,000 Palestinians and injuring more than 91,000 since October 7.
