German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived for her final G7 Summit as leader of Germany in Cornwall on Friday.

Merkel, who has been the German chancellor for 16 years, will be replaced after elections in Germany on September 26.

Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) consisting of Germany, Italy, France, the UK, Japan, the US and Canada, along with EU representatives and leaders from guest countries including Australia, India, South Africa, and South Korea are attending the first day of the annual summit to focus on global issues and policies on Friday.

The US held the G7 Presidency in 2020 but did not convene a Leaders' Summit due to the global pandemic. For this edition, the UK aims to unite the members to discuss the post-pandemic recovery and environmental policies for the future.
