Description

Hundreds of protesters gathered in support of Israel in central London on Sunday, in light of the recently escalated conflict with Hamas and against rising anti-Semitism.

A counter-protester could be seen being escorted away by police.

"I've come today in solidarity for Israel, to stand up to show the Jewish people that Israel has a right to defend itself," said David Mason, a protester who joined the rally in the capital.

Protesters held banners, waved Israel flags and sang songs in solidarity with Israel, while condemning the anti-Semitic rhetoric of pro-Palestine protests in London yesterday.

"This country does not tolerate anti-Semitism. We've heard government ministers say that. We expect they'll take action because they've taken action in the past. The security forces will be tracking down those involved and dealing with them appropriately, under the law, under the full force of the law as it is allowed to," said Barry, another protester.

On Thursday, a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was agreed on with the mediation of Egypt.

The escalation lasted for 11 days and led to 248 fatalities on the Palestinian side and 12 on the Israeli side, according to the respective authorities.
