Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan Yoshimasa Hayashi claimed that treaty signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and DPRK's leader Kim Jong-un 'violates relevant UNSC resolutions', during a press conference in Tokyo on Thursday.
"We are seriously concerned that President Putin has not ruled out military-technical co-operation with North Korea, which would be a direct violation of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, in terms of its impact on the security environment surrounding our country and the region," Yoshimasa said.
He also claimed Moscow "procured arms and ammunition, including ballistic missiles, from North Korea and used them in Ukraine in clear violation of relevant UNSC resolutions".
"We cannot accept such a statement by President Putin that the UNSC sanctions against North Korea need to be reviewed," he concluded.
Earlier on Wednesday, Putin and Kim Jong-un signed Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between Russia and the DPRK. The Russian leader claimed there was 'nothing new' in the deal but said it reflected commitments dating back to the 1960s, with each side providing mutual assistance in the event of any 'aggression' inflicted on them. Moscow and the DPRK have also refuted claims of any arms deals.
