Description

Jordan’s air force reportedly intercepted dozens of Iranian drones and missiles heading to Israel near Amman on Sunday night following Iran's massive attack against Israel.

Footage shows flying objects, alleged to be missiles or drones, lighting up the night sky of the city of Jourdan’s capital as fighter jets patrolled the sky over the capital after Jordan, alongside Iraq and Lebanon had closed its airspace in anticipation of the incoming Iranian aircraft.

Located between Iran and Israel, the country said it would intercept and shoot down any Iranian aircraft violating its airspace.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a wave of drones and missiles from Iran towards Israel late Saturday night in Iran's first direct attack on Israel.

The IRGC confirmed the attack through a statement published by Iranian state TV.

The strike comes in retaliation to an airstrike on April 1, allegedly launched by the Israeli Air Force from the Golan Heights, which destroyed the former Iranian consulate in Damascus, reportedly killing 13 people, including two of Tehran's top commanders.

Iran's National Security Council lodged a formal complaint with the UN Security Council, accusing Israel of a 'terrorist attack on diplomatic premises of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Syria.'

Syrian Health Minister Hassan al-Ghabbash reported additional casualties among Syrian citizens, while Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said his country reserved the right to retaliate.

Israel refrained from acknowledging responsibility for the strike. However, a spokesperson stated that the target was a 'military building of Quds forces,' alluding to a division of the IRGC.

After the direct attack, US President Joe Biden called for emergency meetings with his top national security advisors. The White House affirmed Washington's commitment to supporting Israel's defense.

The United Nations Security Council is reportedly scheduled to convene on Sunday following Israel's request for condemnation of Iran's assault.
