A sea lion in Leipzig predicted a Germany win against Denmark on Friday, a day before the two teams will meet in Dortmund for a Euro 2024 round of 16 clash.

"I am very glad that Sissi went unerringly to the German frisbee disk and brought the frisbee ashore, and, yes, Denmark was unfortunately sunk. What can I say," Jorg Junhold, the zoo's director, said.

Footage shows animal carers throwing two coloured frisbees into the water - a green disk for Germany and a purple one representing Denmark. Sissi picked the German disk and brought it back ashore.

Junhold went on to shed light on how the crew came up with the sea lions' 'oracle activity' saying the basis for it were regular medical examinations of the animals.

"The veterinarian needs to be able to handle them; their mouth must be opened it must be possible to examine the animals with a stethoscope and embedded in this training we thought it would be possible to also perform such an oracle activity," Junhold explained, adding that 'it fits the training'.

Commenting on their fortune-telling track record, he said it was 'not bad'.

"We were wrong only with the first and otherwise we were well and we won the group and now we keep our fingers crossed that it will be like this again tomorrow," he concluded.

Germany ended the group stage at the top of Group A and will face Denmark, which came in second in Group C, in Dortmund on Saturday at 9PM local time.
