Description

Intrepid Chinese sleep-and-motoring enthusiast Gu Yupeng from Yunnan province has been hitting the streets of Kunming in the latest iteration of his DIY motorised bed.

Footage captured on Saturday features the moving bed with Gu Yupeng and his son onboard, operating it via remote control. The video also shows Gu working on the construction of his motorised bed using recycled parts.

"This time the bed car is the eighth generation. My eighth-generation bed car uses four tracks and an independent suspension structure," said Gu.

He also shared some of the challenges he faced, noting that the bed's chassis was 'the biggest difficulty', as was the powerplant, which he ended up changing for a 'bigger motor' to make the bed sufficiently mobile.

The somnulent inventor said that it took 'more than a month' from the production stage through to final debugging to make his motorised bed roadworthy.

For Gu, the invention expands the boundaries of what can be achieved using only a bed.

"This time, the bed car can not only be used to lie down while working, but also can be used for outdoor camping or farming, to transport some crops, or for some emergency rescue," he added.

In 2022, Gu Yupeng created an earlier iteration of his motorised bed with a built-in tent for testing. He has also previously announced that he would like to add more high-tech features, including self-driving. Local media noted that Gu is keen on sustainability, using recycled wheels, wires, and batteries for his innovative bed.
