Description

Russian peacekeepers were credited with facilitating the resumption of school classes in Nagorno-Karabakh after a ceasefire between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Footage filmed in Stepanakert on Saturday shows a reopening ceremony with children heading back to school for the first time since September.

The peacekeepers had checked the building and surrounding areas for explosive devices and restored water and electricity supplies.

Following weeks of hostilities, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a Russian-brokered deal to end fighting over the Nagorno-Karabakh region on November 9.

Under the terms of the deal, 1,960 Russian peacekeepers were deployed in the disputed region to monitor the ceasefire.
