Pope Francis motorcade left the Baghdad airport for the Presidential Palace on Friday as the pontiff started his historic tour of the country.
The pope had earlier been greeted by Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi at Baghdad International Airport. He was welcomed by traditional music and dancers in the halls of the airport.
Pope Francis left in his motorcade passing crowds of people lining the streets waving Iraqi and Vatican flags. His motorcade headed for the Presidential Palace, where he will later meet with Iraqi President Barham Salih.
The pontiff will also hold meetings with civil authorities and members of the Diplomatic Corps as well as with Bishops, Priests, Religious, Consecrated Persons, Seminarians, Catechists at the Syro-Catholic Cathedral of "Our Lady of Salvation" in Baghdad.
