Space technology company Maxar released satellite images on Sunday showing fires burning at several strategically important sites in Khartoum as skirmishes erupted between the army and paramilitary forces for the second day.
The images appear to show burning planes at the Khartoum International Airport, damage to the headquarters of the general command of the Sudanese armed forces and fires at the Ministry of Defense and a hospital.
At least 61 people have reportedly been killed and dozens more injured as the Sudanese army clashed with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group.
The RSF is a paramilitary force formed in 2013 to combat armed rebel groups in the country's war-torn Darfur area, where Khartoum utilized some of the Arab tribes organized under Janjaweed militias against insurgent groups.
The paramilitary organisation has since been employed in crackdowns on rallies and other revolutionary actions. Tensions between the army and the RSF have recently surfaced over the suggested timetable for the RSF's integration into the military.
