Squirrel monkeys and meerkats got a surprise after zookeepers arranged an Easter egg hunt in London Zoo, on Thursday, despite the zoo being closed to the public due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Zookeepers filled paper-mache eggs with tasty treats and placed them in the meerkats and squirrel monkey's exhibits, to the delight of the animals.

Footage shows the Bolivian black squirrel monkeys clambering over a tree to find the eggs, while meerkats scurried around, and even appeared to have a little argument over the Easter treats.

The zoo expects to reopen to the public on Monday 12 April as COVID-19 restrictions ease. During the lockdown zookepers and vets have continued to provide the animals with a high level of care despite the financial difficulties due to the lack of ticket sales
