Description

The Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf Midsummer Festival lit up New Taipei on Sunday with a breathtaking celebration for the Chinese Valentine's Day, or Qixi Festival. The event drew an estimated 60,000 spectators, who were treated to a spectacular blend of technology and tradition.

The evening began with a mesmerising drone show featuring 200 drones forming intricate, love-themed patterns in the sky. These formations depicted romantic scenes such as confessions, meetings, and the exchange of tokens of affection, creating a vivid love story across the night sky.

Following the drone performance, the 'Tamhai Love' themed fireworks display took centre stage. The show was divided into three acts: 'Destined in Tamsui,' 'Summer Fun,' and 'The Bridge of Magpies.' Each segment showcased a different facet of romance, with continuous bursts of brilliant fireworks that captivated the audience.

Tamsui resident Ho remarked, “The fireworks were truly spectacular this year. The way they lit up the sky was something magical. If you haven’t seen them, you really should.”

Wu, another local, shared, “The finale was my favourite part. The way the fireworks lingered in the sky, creating glowing lines, was absolutely mesmerising. It was a moment to remember.”

Wang, who came with modest expectations, was pleasantly surprised. “I often see Japanese festival fireworks on Instagram, so I thought I’d give this a try. Honestly, the show here exceeded my expectations. It was even better than I imagined.”

The festival not only celebrated the romantic spirit of Qixi but also highlighted Tamsui’s vibrant community and cultural festivities. The successful blend of high-tech drones and traditional fireworks made for a memorable evening, leaving both residents and visitors eagerly anticipating next year’s event.
