Members of Gaza's press organised a protest on Sunday to condemn the alleged targeting by Israel of media organisations during the recent escalation of hostilities.

Protesters held signs denouncing the silencing of Palestinian voices that they believe the Israeli government aimed for. The march starting from Jawhara Tower, which includes various media institutions, and continued until the neighbourhood of Rimal at the Jala Tower, which was demolished during the airstrikes.

"This demolition that we see here behind me is the demolished Al Shorouq Tower in downtown Gaza City, the neighbourhood of Rimal. It used to include numerous press offices ranging from television stations to news agencies. In addition to destroying this, the Israeli forces destroyed dozens of towers and residential buildings,” said journalist Saud Abu Ramadan.

The demolished Jala Tower included regional media offices like Al Jazeera as well as international media organisations like Associated Press.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) defended their decision to target the building and said, "the building also hosted offices of civilian media outlets, which the Hamas terror group hides behind and uses as human shields."
