Description

Thousands of protesters rallied in Berlin on Saturday in support of Palestine and Lebanon on the eve of the anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack.

Footage shows demonstrators waving huge Palestinian flags and carrying banners reading: 'Stop Israel's bloody genocide', 'Free Palestine from Israel's occupation' among others. A small scuffle between the protesters can also be seen.

One of the rally members, Sehrat, denounced the German government's response to the escalating violence in Gaza and its continued support for Israel through arms sales.

"Our German press says that we are spreading hate, people on social media, who have no understanding of this issue, say that we are spreading hate and incitement," said Sehrat, adding that "we are not saying that anyone should die, or that anyone should be attacked, we want peace."

Earlier Berlin Interior Senator Iris Spranger warned that expression of anti-Semitism during rallies scheduled to mark the anniversary of the Hamas' October 7 attack will be prosecuted. Some 2,000 police officers are expected to provide security in Berlin on Monday as thousands are expected to take to the streets of the city in rival demonstrations.

Palestinian group Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the Gaza Strip, Israel launched a large-scale response of airstrikes and a ground incursion. Palestinian officials reported that 41,825 people had been killed and more than 96,910 injured at the time of publication.

Lebanese, Iranian, and Palestinian factions have been exchanging cross-border shelling with Israeli forces since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza which also led to the deaths of several leaders of Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran.

Several nations have echoed the call for the end of conflict in the enclave as they raised concerns on the dwindling humanitarian situation in the region while some assert Israel’s right to defend itself from terrorist attacks.
