Description

Thousands of daycare workers staged a protest led by several local unions in front of Berlin's city hall on Thursday to demand better working conditions for the professionals.

Footage shows the protesters waving flags, holding signs and banners, among others reading: 'Education instead of storage' and 'More of us is better for everyone'.

"We are educators in the daycare centres of Berlin, and we can no longer accept the working conditions. We are all on the verge of burnout, and we finally want the Berlin Senate to come to us and enter into collective bargaining so that we can structurally improve our working conditions," stated Sebastian, a protester.

According to media reports, at least 2,000 joined this Thursday's protest.

It is also reported that the German senate initially refused to negotiate with the unions, thus more strikes expected the next week.
