Description

Six people were killed, including three children, and eleven injured in an alleged Israeli airstrike on residential buildings housing refugees in the Lebanese town of Qmatiyeh on Monday.

Footage shows the destroyed facades of buildings and damaged cars, with clothes and furniture scattered across the site of the airstrike.

“We denounce this aggression and blatant attack on a safe populated area. The Israeli enemy targeted [the buildings] without prior warning,” commented Mahmud Nasreddine, deputy mayor of Qmatiyeh Municipality

“Whenever the Israelis fail to achieve their goals, they bomb women, children, and the elderly. They came here to chase the displaced people and civilians in their homes and increase the pressure,” said local Hadi Zaruri.

“This blood will make us more determined and steadfast to continue supporting Gaza and defending Lebanon,” he added.

On Monday, September 23, the Israeli military launched “Operation Northern Arrows” with raids targeting southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley, and Beirut's southern suburbs. The operation aims to return northern residents to their homes. It also began a ‘limited’ ground operation in southern Lebanese villages near the border with Israel.

On Friday, September 27, the Israeli army carried out raids on the southern suburbs of Beirut, killing Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah, Southern Front commander Ali Karaki and several of his aides, according to a statement issued by Hezbollah.

The Israeli bombing has so far killed more than 1,974 people and injured more than 9,000, while Hezbollah continued its rocket attacks on northern Israel, including Haifa, Safed and Tel Aviv.

Tensions between Lebanon and Israel escalated in mid-September after the bombing of wireless devices used by Hezbollah and the Israeli raids on the southern suburbs of Beirut, which targeted Hezbollah military commanders.

The Israeli army has been exchanging cross-border shelling with Hezbollah, Lebanese and Palestinian factions since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war.
