Heavy rainfall in Henan province caused severe flooding in the capital city of Zhengzhou leading to traffic disruption and flight delays.

Aerial footage as well as video from the ground captured on Monday shows a large number of vehicles driving through flooded streets while people were seen using umbrellas as they attempted to cross knee-deep waters.

Flooding on the roads reportedly forced some local buses to suspend service while authorities closed the Zhengzhou Ring Expressway and the Zhengzhou-Shaolin Temple Expressway.

The Zhengzhou Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow warning signal for heavy rainfall. According to Henan Meteorological Observatory, average precipitation in Henan Province reached 13.9 mm with the average precipitation in Zhengzhou hitting 54.8 mm.

Local authorities called on citizens for caution to prevent secondary disasters such as flash floods, mudslides and urban waterlogging.
