After his statement outside Paris Judical Police Directorate, Craig refrained from answering any additional questions as reporters followed him to the team's minivan.
According to media reports, the Paris public prosecutor's office confirmed that police officers had witnessed a drug purchase on Tuesday in the district of Pigalle in the 9th arrondissement of the capital and subsequently arrested two men, one of whom happened to be Craig.
The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) issued a statement, confirming that "a member of the Australian hockey team is in custody following his arrest in Paris on 6 August".
The AOC expressed its 'shock and disappointment at the events' and declared that 'all necessary measures' were being taken 'to address the matter appropriately'. The athlete was released with a warning and no charges pressed against him.
On Sunday, Tom Craig competed for the Australian national team in the quarter-final match against the Netherlands, which the Kookaburras lost 0-2 and were eliminated from the Olympic field hockey tournament.
It was Craig's second time he participated in the Olympic Games. Three years ago he won a silver medal with the men's national field hockey team in Tokyo.
