Description

Footage filmed in Kharkov on Wednesday features rescue workers putting out fires in a damaged multistorey building in the aftermath of a reported missile attack.

The video also shows fire trucks and ambulances at the scene carrying out operations.

In a post on Telegram, Ihor Terekhov, Kharkov's mayor, reported that 'five people' had died while nine more had been injured after the strike.

According to local authorities, a printing house was located in the building.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said stated that Kharkiv needs an 'adequate number of air defence systems' in his recent video address.

Russia has not commented on the reported drone attack. It has strongly denied targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.

Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
