Description

Thousands of worshippers came together to pray in celebration of the first day of Eid al-Adha, the festival of the sacrifice, in Jalalabad on Tuesday.

Since the start of the withdrawal of international troops from Afghanistan, Taliban forces have started several offensives, in a bid to take control of several districts, many of them in northern Afghanistan.

"I'm very happy to come here to offer Eid prayer together with people, but unfortunately recently the situation has not been good. We call on the Taliban and the government, not to create problems for people during the days of Eid," says one resident.

In Kabul, rockets hit close to the presidential palace while Afghan president Ashraf Ghani was giving prayers on Monday.

The Taliban and delegates of the Afghan government met in Doha over the weekend for peace talks, but have failed to reach an agreement.
