Description

Crowds were seen gathering with Soviet flags at Munich’s Wittelsbacherplatz on Victory Day (Thursday) for an Immortal Regiment march to remember the soldiers who lost their lives in WWII.

Footage shows attendees with pictures of fallen Red Army soldiers laying flowers at the Maximilian I equestrian statue in tribute to their relatives and loved ones who fought in the war.

"We are here every year, and we celebrate Victory Day over fascism. Today is the 79th anniversary of our victory over fascism. All people celebrate this day, and all people honour, remember and love this day,” a participant said.

"I'm here to show and to remember my family members [that] they died for a reason. They died for us. They died for our family so that today we have this freedom," added a second.

The Immortal Regiment March is an annual tradition that takes place on Victory Day in many countries worldwide. It honours the memory of those who served in the Red Army by carrying portraits of soldiers and laying flowers at memorials.

Similar marches were held in Madrid, Paris, Beijing and other cities across the world, drawing hundreds of participants. The march serves as a reminder of the collective struggle and sacrifice during the war and the lasting impact of those who fought against tyranny.
