The 2024 Summer Olympics are the first to feature an official breakdancing competition alongside traditional events such as gymnastics, track and field and volleyball.
"It's a beautiful thing, it's definitely a beautiful thing. It opens up new doors for the discipline and new challenges for the new generations arriving. These are new challenges and, above all, it opens a lot of doors for the discipline," said Pascal Blaze, a breakdance coordinator at French Dance Federation.
Another respondent, Raphael, said that he came to see the whole urban park, the atmosphere, and to get a feel for the Olympics. "Yes, we also like breakdancing because it's new already. It's the first time it's been included in the Olympics. We wanted to see that," he added.
Besides breakdancing, Paris also saw the introduction of two new sports including surfing and sport climbing.
Breakdancing was first introduced as a test event for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games, which were held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
This year, a total of 32 breakdancers (16 men and women) competed throughout the Games in two separate categories known as B-girls and B-boys.
Ami Yuasa from Japan reportedly won the B-girls gold medal along with Dominika Banevic from Lithuania and Liu Qingyi from China winning the silver and bronze medal, respectively.
The B-boys will compete for the three medals on Saturday.
