Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused 'Western powers' of supporting 'Netanyahu's' war plans and urging regional countries to stand by Lebanon while addressing the parliament in Ankara on Wednesday.

"Although the Western powers speak differently in front of the cameras, behind the scenes we see that they pat Israel on the back and even support it. It is extremely grave and pathetic that the states, which talk about freedom, human rights and justice when it comes to words, are the captives of a mental patient like Netanyahu," he stated.

Erdogan claimed that the Israeli Prime Minister’s plans 'to spread the war to the region' would bring a 'great disaster' and urged Middle Eastern countries to join Turkey in support of Lebanon.

"We observe with regret that the Islamic world is acting as if it has been sprinkled with dead soil. We should not give this opportunity. Turkey stands by the brotherly Lebanese people and state. I invite other countries in the region to be in solidarity with Lebanon," the politician continued.

Hezbollah and Palestinian factions have been exchanging cross-border fire with Israeli forces since 8 October, the day after the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
