The streets of Minatitlan, located in the state of Veracruz, have been inundated following the overflow of the Coatzacoalcos River—one of the largest rivers in southern Veracruz that flows into the Gulf of Mexico—due to heavy seasonal rainfall.
Footage filmed on Saturday a distressing scene with debris and garbage floating across the flooded streets, accompanied by drone shots that reveal the extensive damage caused by the flooding.
"It's deep, more or less, Capoacan too; people are founding there. We are deeply suffering on that side, the family, the children," said Guillermo, one of the locals.
According to local media reports, over 18,000 people in at least 62 communities have been affected by the floods. Additionally, it has been reported that crops and local vegetation have suffered severe damage due to the inundation.
Every rainy season, local and state authorities issue warnings about the imminent risk of flooding and urge residents in vulnerable areas to evacuate.
