Quiet reigned in the Syrian border town of Ras al-Ayn on Tuesday as the deadline for the withdrawal of Kurdish forces and their equipment from near the Turkish-Syrian border expired, as seen from the Turkish town of Ceylanpinar.
Under an agreement reached a week ago between the leaders of Turkey and Russia the deadline for Kurdish forces to withdraw from the so-called 'safe zone' was due in today at 18:00 local time (15:00 GMT).
According to Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, Kurdish forces have completed their withdrawal from the 30 km (19 mile) 'safe zone' ahead of schedule.
Russian forces are reportedly set to patrol a 10 km (6 miles) area of land on the Turkish-Syrian border alongside Turkish troops.
