The death toll from severe flooding and landslides caused by Typhoon Yagi in Myanmar reached 226, according to state media, with over 320,000 displaced, and more than 66,000 homes destroyed.
Footage from Taungoo on Sunday shows residents using boats to navigate the floodwaters. Local volunteer and monk Thu Re Za described the situation as 'very challenging', adding that rescue teams were still struggling to reach isolated areas.
"The water has receded, but some people in deep-water regions still need assistance," he said.
Win Pa Pa, a local resident, said she "left home with only the clothes I was wearing".
"My house is gone, everything washed away," she continued.
Typhoon Yagi, which has already claimed hundreds of lives across Southeast Asia, saw the Myanmar military government formally request international assistance to address an escalating crisis.
Authorities say the death toll could rise further as communication issues with remote areas continue to hinder relief efforts.
