Dozens of dogs came together for a tail-wagging ceremony at the Viamede Resort in Woodview, Canada on Saturday to exchange their vows. The mass matrimony attempted to break the world record for 'largest dog wedding'.

Footage shows a parade of pooches in bow ties and veils. The canine couples barked their 'I dos' before eyeing the wedding cake which successfully achieved the 'world's largest dog cake' award.

Canadian journalist and renowned broadcaster Lloyd Robertson officiated the wedding ceremony.

"I now pronounce you companions in marriage," he announced. "Congratulations! You may lick your partners. And now, let them eat cake!"

The event was organised by the Canadian non-profit organisation Golden Rescue. Their attempt at breaking the record for 'largest dog wedding' failed, however, the organisation successfully set the record for the 'largest dog cake', which weighed 141 kilograms.

If Golden Rescue had succeeded in breaking both records on Saturday, it was reported that a donor had pledged to donate $20,000 to aid the volunteers' efforts in rescuing golden retrievers.

The title for the 'largest dog wedding' is currently held by the Aspen Grove Lifestyle Center in Littleton, USA. Their 2007 'Bow Wow Vows' event set a Guinness World Record when 178 canine couples 'tied the knot' in a mass matrimony.
