Description

After dozens of Trump supporters had gathered to listen to speeches outside the Oregon State Capitol in Salem on Wednesday afternoon, factions within the group of supporters began clashing with local police and counter-protesters.

During the rally beforehand, the language used in the speeches was incendiary, calling on Trump supporters to stand up for the President's belief of a fraudulent election.

"You and I cannot afford to stand idly by when things become uncomfortable. Because for those of us who have the strength to stand we must. Because there are so many that have been completely crushed under the tyranny of this liberalism, this fascism, this communism that is taking over our country and someone has to stand against it," said Oregon legislator Dallas Herd to the crowd.

After the speeches, when a group of counter-protesters arrived at the Capitol to confront the pro-Trump gathering, Oregon State Police confirmed that fights broke out between the two sides.

During the clashes police arrested 43-year-old David Willis of Lincoln County for harassment and disorderly conduct. David Willis is a leading member of the far-right group 'Patriot Prayer.'

The situation almost mirrored the incredible happenings in Washington DC at the same time. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser was forced to announce a curfew there after rioters entered the US Capitol building where lawmakers gathered to certify the victory of Joe Biden in the US presidential election.

Despite the continuing scuffles and injured attendees, Salem Police said that 'no force' was needed to separate the two groups.
