Hundreds of demonstrators took part in a Black Lives Matter march across the streets of Bridgeport on Saturday.
Protesters wearing masks carrying BLM signs and banners could be seen.
Controversy surrounded the march as reverend Al Sharpton, a famous Black civil rights activist, didn't take part as initially planned.
Adverts purporting Al Sharpton's attendance and participation at the Bridgeport rally flooded social media, but the organisers were forced to admit that they could only guarantee a representative from his team would be attending amid fears for his safety.
"How [is] somebody going to respect you when you don't respect yourself? I marched over [inaudible] for my right to vote, for my right to go places that I wanted to go to, that I could eat where I want to and sleep where I want to," protester Leticia Adams told the crowd.
