Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez welcomed the UEFA Euro 2024 winners to the Moncloa Palace in Madrid on Monday.
“I wanted to thank you for having shown the best version of Spain and for having demonstrated the capacity for effort, for the comeback, for team spirit, for sacrifice, for preparation, and for strategy,” Sanchez said.
Footage shows the players arriving at the palace and greeting Sanchez, as well as interacting with the fans after the prime minister’s speech. The video also features a cold interaction between Spain’s right-back Dani Carvajal and Sanchez.
Spain beat England 2-1 to win the 2024 European Championship at the Olympiastadion Berlin.
La Roja opened the scoring after half time with a strike from Nico Williams, while Cole Palmer equalised in the 73rd minute. Mikel Oyarzabal grabbed the winner with just four minutes of regular time remaining.
It marks Spain's record fourth title, while England - also beaten by Italy in the previous final in 2021 - are without a win at a major tournament since the 1966 World Cup.
