Argentine gold medallist Jose Torres Gil received a hero welcome at the Olympic Lap in Cordoba on Saturday, as the athlete performed stunts during the celebration after he won gold in the Paris Olympic Games in BMX Freestyle Park

Footage captured the cyclist performing daring stunts, with enthusiastic supporters cheering him on and watching the breathtaking display. During the event, Jose received an award from the officials. The medallist and his teammates were also seen high-fiving fans and leading a celebratory bicycle ride.

"There were really many mixed emotions, many of which I cannot even understand, but of course, I am very happy and very pleased with this welcome; this bike ride is part of what we wanted to do," shared Jose Torres Gil.

He noted that this park is 'where it all began', and he "even became a professional on this track that perhaps is not the most suitable to go out and compete with the best in the world", remarking that 'that is how Argentines are'.

Talking about the Olympics, Torres Gil said that when he saw Argentina two points above the UK and France, it was the moment he 'perhaps fell down the most'.

"I understood how we got there, with what situation we got there, and I understood the Argentine, the sacrifice they make to be able to be in the first place, but I feel super happy, super happy with what we had," he stated, adding that he hopes to reach his 'best version' by the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The Olympic Lap event was organised by the municipality and the provincial government, featuring special participation from 2024 Olympic gold medallist Jose 'Maligno' Torres.

Symbolically connecting two tracks in the Park of the Nations and Kempes Park, where the cyclist's talent first emerged, the 3.5-kilometre circuit allowed participants to join the celebration on their bicycles.

Jose Torres Gil secured his Olympic victory in BMX Freestyle Park on July 31, finishing 0.91 seconds faster than English cyclist Kieran Reilly and 1.06 seconds ahead of French cyclist Anthony Jeanjean.
