Parisians welcomed the news of Democratic nominee Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 US presidential election on Saturday.
"For me and for the person I live with, it was a great relief", said one Paris resident, adding that US-based friends had been sending "messages and videos of joy" in reaction to the news, while another Parisian, Alex, emphasised that he thought Biden would bring "more harmony" to the US's international relations.
Another woman commented that she was "very happy," and explained that the response of President Donald Trump was "unfortunately offering the image of what he has always been: a clown. A clown who demolishes democracy."
William, an American resident of Paris, said he was "very happy not just for the United States but for the world" and dubbed Trump a "complete disaster."
While Biden has been declared the projected winner by media outlets in the US and has given a speech accepting his victory, Trump has not yet announced his concession and his campaign has said it intends to mount legal challenges over alleged electoral fraud in several states.
