Japanese toymaker 'MegaHouse' has unveiled the 'world's smallest Rubik's Cube' to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the most popular three-dimensional puzzle on the planet.

Footage captured in Tokyo on Thursday shows Ryo Takechi, a MegaHouse production team member, attempting to solve the minuscule cube with a pair of tweezers.

"This Rubik's Cube is 0.5 cm in size and made of aluminium. It is made from cut metal and has a total of 39 parts. The 39 parts are assembled by hand," Takechi explained.

Weighing in at just 0.3 grams (0.01 ounces) and tinier than a fingertip, the Guinness World Records recognised MegaHouse's Rubik's Cube as the smallest rotating puzzle cube on August 23.

"It is very difficult because you have to be really careful when turning it, but I think you will be happy when you complete it, so we hope you will give it a try," Takechi added.

According to a member of MegaHouse's business strategy team, the release celebrates Hungarian inventor Erno Rubik, who created the rotating puzzle in 1974.
