Olympic spectators were seen trying to cool off while queuing for the Games, as the French capital grappled with an intense heatwave. It followed an Opening Ceremony marred by heavy rain.

"The weather is very hot right now," said a Danish fan. "I think it's going to be a little too hot with the games, but I think we'll manage."

Footage captures on Tuesday shows locals and tourists using hand-held fans and cooling off underneath water mist fountains. Meanwhile, Olympics staff members can also be seen distributing water bottles as temperatures soared to 37 °C (98.6 °F).

"We're going to make it through, we're here to support the United States, so we're just excited to do that," said one American fan who'd resolved to make the best of it. "[If] we're going to be hot anywhere, I'd like to be hot in Paris."

"Well, the weather is very hot, it's going to be complicated but there you go, we're going to splash around [in the fountains to keep cool]" said another.

Air conditioning is less common in France compared to other countries, while the south, including Marseille, is set for even higher temperatures.

The 2024 Olympic Games takes place in Paris from July 26 to August 11, marking the third time the French capital has hosted the Summer Olympics, following the 1900 and 1924 games.
