Description

Drone footage filmed on Sunday in Minsk shows protesters heading in the direction of President Lukashenko residence during an unauthorised rally called "March of Heroes".

The rally began on 14:00 local time (UTC +3). The main column met on Independence prospect and then headed towards Drozdy district, where the residence of the Belorussian leader and houses of other public officials are situated. According to the statement of the "A1" mobile operator, in compliance with the order of the state authorities "network capacity was reduced", which led to the mobile Internet disruptions.

Protesters in Belarus are also holding rallies in other cities including Zhodina, Grodno, Brest and Mogilev. Belarus has been swept by anti-government protests following the disputed presidential election that saw incumbent president Aleksander Lukashenko re-elected for a sixth term. On August 19 the European Union announced sanctions against "a substantial number of individuals responsible for violence, repression, and election fraud" in Belarus.
