Description

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said it was time to "let the healing begin" between those for and against Brexit, in a speech outside London's 10 Downing Street, following his landslide election victory.

"I frankly urge everyone on either side of what are, after three-and-a-half years after all, an increasingly arid argument, I urge everyone to find closure and to let the healing begin," Johnson said.

The UK Prime Minister said his new government had "an overwhelming mandate from this election to get Brexit done, and we will honour that mandate by January 31st."

Johnson told Remain voters that his "One Nation" Conservative government would "never ignore your good and positive feelings of warmth and sympathy towards the other nations of Europe."

"I know that after five weeks, frankly, of electioneering, this country deserves a break from wrangling, a break from politics and a permanent break from talking about Brexit," Johnson continued.

Johnson's Conservatives secured the biggest majority since the 1980s with 364 seats, with one result still to be declared, while the Labour party won 203 seats, down 42 from 2017.
