Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday dismissed reports Russia or the Nord Stream 2 pipeline were behind the rising gas prices in the European Union.

Chancellor Merkel stated, "The question of whether there have been orders that have been taken by Russia that have not been fulfilled, and as its stands, with the information I have received a few days ago, I cannot say for today, that is not the case."

The German chancellor added that both energy prices and Nord Stream 2 concerns will be addressed at the upcoming European Council meeting at the end of the month.
