Germany: AfD's Chrupalla says Union 'punished for 16 years of Merkel' after exit polls released
The right-wind AfD party's co-leader Tino Chrupalla said that Union party had been "punished for 16 years of Merkel" in a meeting during German elections night party in Berlin on Sunday.
"We have seen that we have a strong, core electorate in Germany, that we can build up here, we will look at what the reason was that we may have lost voters, this must also be addressed critically, of course," Chrupalla said.
"All in all, we also have to say, if we also see the results, for example, of the Union and the Greens, the Union was punished for 16 years of Merkel and that is right, so it was a good success," Chrupalla added as the audience applauded his speech.
"Especially with regard to the Left and the Greens, the Greens at 15 percent, if we had found our way to our topics in the same way in the media, if we had been treated in the same way in the media, we would have reached 20 percent as AfD in Germany," the AfD co-leader stressed.
Far-right Alternative for Germany Deputy leader Alice Weidel and co-leader Tino Chrupalla have won 84 of the 730 sits from the German Parliament so far, with a 10,6 percent of votes, and occupying the 5th position in the ranking as the most voted party during the Bundestag elections.
