Description

The Eiffel Tower was seen lit up with flashing lights on Friday evening, as rain hit the Olympics Opening Ceremony along the River Seine.

Footage shows the tower sparkling, as well as red and blue lights illuminating the monument.

The Opening Ceremony featured teams of athletes parading down the river, as well as dancing and performances along the banks.

As well as the downpours, it was marred by religious controversy over the apparent recreation of Leonardo da Vinci's 'Last Supper' with dancers and drag queens - as well as an upside down Olympic flag and the introduction of South Korea's athletes as the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea (DPRK).

Earlier, chaos also hit the railway network across France, which the authorities blamed on 'malicious' arson attacks.
