Russian President Vladimir Putin claims that the political speculation surrounding the project "Nord Stream-2" are related to attempts of unfair competition on the European market, speaking at a meeting with representatives of the French business community in Moscow on Thursday.

"We know that there are many political speculations around this project, but I want to emphasise once again that this is a purely economic project that has nothing to do with the current political situation," Putin said.

"There is a classic writer Saltykov-Shchedrin. He wrote about a character - the general who lost in the forest. That character sent his orderly to get some buns, thinking that croissants and buns grew on trees. In my opinion, some political leaders think the same way, think that electricity comes from the socket," Putin claimed.

The Russian leader also mentioned the implementation of other significant projects such as ventures "Yamal LNG" in and "Arctic LNG 2".
