French President Emmanuel Macron called on the world's richest countries to contribute their fair share and 'keep commitments made' in the Paris Accords in 2015, during a speech at the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow on Monday.

"We can only overcome these international challenges if we are coordinated and if we act together," he said, pointing out that countries that have not been major contributors to climate change are suffering the first consequences.

"All developed economies must now contribute to their fair share, because leadership demands exemplarity. We must therefore find all the means for the richest countries to accelerate this financing because we committed to put those 100 billion dollars a year on the table between 2020 and 2025," the French leader added. "I want to call, here, upon all countries who haven't met their fair share to take their responsibilities by the end of this COP to keep that commitment made in Paris."

World leaders are meeting for the COP26 United Nations climate summit in Glasgow until November 12 to set new goals to address climate change and other issues.
