This monument had been unveiled on Friday.
Police have stated the vandalism took place at 10:00 (local time; 14:00 GMT) Sunday morning, and was perpetrated by a male with skateboard.
Later on Sunday, volunteers worked to restore the sculpture by removing the paint.
The statue was unveiled on Friday alongside sculptures of Breonna Taylor and John Lewis as part of an art project by group Confront.art.
This is the second time the statue of Floyd has been intentionally damaged. In June, the sculpture was smeared with black paint and tagged by white nationalist hate group “patriot front."
