Description

After little more than two years in office, US ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, who is known for his political closeness to President Donald Trump, stepped down from his post and from the State Department, as announced on Tuesday.

Deputy chief of mission at the embassy, Robin Quinville, will take over as Charge d’Affaires until a new ambassador is appointed.

Richard Grenell, who used to act as Director of the National intelligence (DNI) since February, advocated for US President Donald Trump’s foreign policy since he took over the job in Berlin around two years ago.

Grenell also issued warnings against German companies trying to make businesses with Iran, criticised Berlin's commitment to the Nord Stream 2 pipeline with Russia, and blamed the country for scare contributions in military spending.
