Description

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said that the Islamic Emirate is 'struggling' as long as the international community, including the United Nations, does not recognise its sovereignty, speaking during a press conference in Kabul on Tuesday.

"The Islamic Emirate is struggling," said Mujahid, adding, "We request that all countries secure their diplomatic communication with the Islamic Emirate and recognise our government."

Mujahid also announced new cabinet members, highlighting how some come from ethnic minorities, such as the Hazaras, or historically hostile regions such as Panjshir, home of the National Resistance Front.

"A resident of Panjshir province and the country's national trader, Haji Nooruddin Azizi, has been chosen as acting Minister of Commerce and Industry," said the Taliban spokesperson.

No women have so far been appointed to cover government roles.

Mujahid also said that concerns over the presence of Al-Qaida in Afghanistan 'is just propaganda,' adding that the Taliban are committed to assuring that 'Afghan soil will not be used against any other country.'
