The 277 lawmakers elected in the legislative elections of December 6 were sworn in on Tuesday, during a ceremony at the Venezuelan National Assembly in Caracas.
The congressmen can be seen entering parliament while carrying portraits of Simon Bolívar and former President Hugo Chavez.
MP Jorge Rodriguez was elected by his colleagues as the new president of the National Assembly in its first session.
"I tell you, without any rhetorical intent: we cannot fail. This time, we can only succeed. This time, we have to repair what has been damaged. We have to rebuild what was destroyed. We have to rebuild what was damaged by betrayal, by hatred and by violence," said Rodriguez after taking office.
Jorge Rodríguez will replace opposition leader Juan Guaido, who refused to participate in the legislative elections dismissing them as 'fraudulent.'
President Nicolas Maduro's ruling party, grouped in the Great Patriotic Pole (GPP), won the legislative elections with 67.6 percent of the votes.
