German government spokesperson Steffen Seibert said that Chancellor Angela Merkel welcomed the summit between US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a press conference in Berlin on Wednesday.
"The chancellor has expressly welcomed that there is this first meeting since the American president came into office," said Seibert.
Biden was set to meet with Putin in Geneva for a bilateral summit on Wednesday, with the meeting being the first between the pair since Biden served as vice president during the Obama administration.
