US President Joe Biden said it was his 'hope and expectation' to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during a planned visit to Europe in June.

"We're working on it," he said, during a presser held in Washington DC on Tuesday.

Biden also shared a new goal his administration set up, to have at least 70 percent of the adult population vaccinated with the first COVID-19 vaccine by July 4th.

"Our goal by July 4th is to have 70 percent of adult Americans with at least one shot and 160 million Americans fully vaccinated. That means giving close to 100 million shots, some first shots, others second shots over the next 60 days," stated the US president.

"In two months, let's celebrate our independence as a nation and our independence from this virus," he added.

He also announced that over the course of the next two months the vaccination drive will focus on three demographics, "kids between 12 and 15 are awaiting potential FDA authorisation to get a shot. Two, adults who have had trouble locating a place to get a shot or who just haven't gotten around to it. And three, those who need more convincing being convinced of the necessity of getting the vaccine."

According to data compiled by John Hopkins University, the US has registered 32,504,546 COVID-19 cases and 578,292 related deaths as of Tuesday.
