Taiwanese president Tsai Ing-wen welcomed four US representatives to Taipei on Wednesday, where they discussed the strong relationship between their countries and its importance to trade and international security.

During a joint press conference, Tsai told journalists that the arrival of the US delegation was a symbol of ‘rock-solid’ support in the fallout of heightened tensions with China.

“You are the eighth US congressional delegation to visit Taiwan this year. Your visit comes in the aftermath of China's military exercises in August. This assures us of the rock-solid support for the bipartisan friendship towards Taiwan and the US Congress,” President Tsai said.

Later, Tsai alluded to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and reiterated that Taipei was willing to deepen its cooperation with Washington to maintain global and regional stability.

“Over the past few months, we have seen the expansion of authoritarianism. This has resulted in people suffering the pain of war. To jointly maintain regional and global peace and stability, I want to reiterate that Taiwan is willing to further deepen cooperation with the United States and all democratic partners,” Tsai said.

Massachusetts congressman Seth Moulton was among the US delegates at the press conference and reiterated the United States’ commitments to Taiwan, stating that the relationship was built on shared values.

"The strength of our relationship is it is founded upon shared values. Values of freedom, democracy, and the rule of law. They are shared by the Americans, by the Taiwanese, by the people of Ukraine, and we believe by people of China,” Moulton said.
