Description

After two Palestinians were killed in Deir al-Balah on Wednesday while dismantling an apparent explosive device that the Palestinian Ministry of the Interior said was a remnant of last month's Israeli bombardment, thousands lined the streets to take part in a public funeral as the bodies of the deceased arrived in Gaza City.

After the deaths had been confirmed, hundreds of locals lined the streets and chanted as Hamas militants carried the bodies through the streets. The two dead were named as Osama Fadl Geneina and Ahmed Zaki Abu Hasira, and were both in the Al-Qassam brigades, part of the military wing of Hamas.

An Egyptian-mediated ceasefire was reached between Israel and Palestinian militants on Thursday, May 20, bringing to an end the worst outbreak of violence since 2014. Twelve Israelis and 248 Palestinians died during the 11 days of hostilities.
